Information overload
This is work is a three-dimensional exploration of the concept of a book and of the way messages or information could be delivered.
Concept ::
I am interested in the clash of the information age; digital meets analogue. We rely so heavily on our computers for everything and in the future, we will probably rely on them even more. The way we interact with information, from reading to writing, is changing all the time with the digital onslaught.
We enter our words into the computer via the keyboard in our own language; the computer translates this information into binary data (01001101000 etc) and stores it for us. The keyboard is all powerful in allowing us to interface with and control the computer environment.
What would a computer say if a computer could talk? What would happen if suddenly our trusted guide, our translator were to rearrange itself? How would we communicate with the all powerful, all knowing computer then?
Method:
Computer keyboards are used as ‘pages’ on which a message is displayed. The usual QWERTY arrangement of keys is rearranged and subverted. Each keyboard is to be displayed in front of a computer screen, with a mouse, as if a normal keyboard. The audience is invited to try to type with them.
