Building blocks

Concept ::

This project is a three-dimensional book, constructed from a series of wooden bricks (or blocks), each of which has photographs attached to the fascias, displayed as a wall.

The book explores through images of walls, graffiti, message fragments, public art, street posters, political messages and typography, the way words and language are used in our world – physically, virtually and metaphorically.

It is designed to illustrate the way we don't necessarily take away the message intended, but rather zero in on fragments that catch our attention.

Each brick tells a story; the bricks as a whole tell whatever story the viewer/constructor creates. The audience is invited to break down the wall and rebuild it in whatever way they wish, creating urban poetry and a new message in the process.

Method:

The blocks (w:120mm x h: 70mm x d:45mm) are pine wood, sanded and sealed with black gesso. The images are attached with Helmar acid free glue.
